Ex-President Badruddoza Chowdhury’s first death anniversary today
The first death anniversary of former President and founder of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh, Professor Dr. A.Q.M. Badruddoza Chowdhury is neing observed today (Sunday, October 5). He passed away on October 5, 2024.
Widely known as Dr. B. Chowdhury, he was born on October 11, 1930, in Cumilla. He obtained his MBBS degree from Dhaka Medical College in 1954–55 and joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in 1978, becoming its first secretary general.
Dr. Chowdhury was elected Member of Parliament from the Munshiganj-1 constituency five times. He served twice as Deputy Leader of the House and once as Deputy Leader of the Opposition. In 1979, he was appointed Deputy Prime Minister in the cabinet of President Ziaur Rahman.
In 2001, Dr. Chowdhury was elected as the 15th President of Bangladesh. However, due to political differences with the BNP, he resigned from the post in 2002.
To commemorate his death anniversary, Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh has undertaken various programmes across the country.
