Ex-Satkhira Public Prosecutor Abdul Latif dies in jail custody
Former Satkhira Judge Court Public Prosecutor Advocate Abdul Latif died early Monday (May 25) after suffering a stroke while in jail custody, prison authorities confirmed.
According to officials, the 60-year-old fell seriously ill inside Satkhira District Jail during the early hours of the morning. He was initially given primary treatment by prison authorities before being rushed to Satkhira Sadar Hospital, where doctors later declared him dead while undergoing treatment.
Abdul Latif was a resident of Kamarbaisha village in Satkhira Sadar upazila and was also known to own a residence in the Rasulpur area of the district town.
He was previously involved in Awami League politics and reportedly went into hiding following the July 2024 political movement. Later, on December 12, 2025, members of Satkhira District Detective Branch (DB) Police arrested him and his son, Aminul Islam Rasel, from the Bohera area of Khulna City Corporation.
Following interrogation, both were sent to Satkhira District Jail through court order, where they had remained in custody since then.
Prison authorities said the body would be handed over to family members after completion of legal formalities.
During his tenure as public prosecutor, Abdul Latif faced allegations of amassing illegal wealth and was also accused in multiple criminal cases, including extortion and murder, filed with Satkhira Sadar Police Station.
