Ex-Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman arrested

Former Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed has been arrested by Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RPMP).

He was arrested around 9:30pm on Thursday (January 30) from a relative's house located near the post office on Central Road in the Rangpur Metropolitan area.

According to the police, Nuruzzaman had been on the run since August 5 and frequently changed his location to evade arrest.

On information, police conducted a raid and arrested him.

RPMP Commissioner Md. Majid Ali confirmed the arrest, stating, "It was based on confidential information."

Nuruzzaman Ahmed faces several charges, including assault, murder, and attempted murder, linked to the anti-discrimination student movement.

The police are also verifying reports of two or three other cases against him in Rangpur.

"Investigations are ongoing to determine if he is involved in any other cases," the commissioner added.
