A court in Jamalpur has issued an arrest warrant against former State Minister for Information and former MP of Jamalpur-4 (Sarishabari) Dr. Murad Hasan in a defamation case.

The case was filed for his derogatory remarks against the Zia family, including former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman and his daughter Zaima Rahman.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Romana Akhter of the Sarishabari Administrative Court issued the arrest warrants on Monday (September 1) against Dr. Murad Hasan and another accused.

The plaintiff alleges that this malicious and vulgar falsehood caused damage exceeding Tk 10,000 crore to Tarique Rahman, Zaima Rahman and the entire Zia family and also tarnished the country's image.

The other accused in the case include Mohi Uddin Helal Nahid, son of ATM Abul Kashem from Patia Municipality in Chattogram.

Dr. Murad Hasan was first elected to parliament in 2008 and later re-elected in 2018. He served as State Minister for Health and then for Information but lost his ministerial post in December 2021 following the leak of an audio conversation with a film actress.
