Ex-State Minister Mizanur Rahman Sinha dies in Singapore

Former Health and Family Welfare State Minister, ex-BNP central committee treasurer, and Munshiganj District BNP convener Mizanur Rahman Sinha has died while undergoing treatment in Singapore. He was 81.

He passed away at a hospital in Singapore early Friday (May 15) at around 2:00am, his daughter Tasnim Sinha confirmed through social media.

Sinha had recently received BNP nomination for the Munshiganj-2 (Lohajang–Tongibari) constituency ahead of the 13th national parliamentary elections. However, after falling ill, the party later replaced him with BNP Joint Secretary General Advocate Abdul Salam Azad as the candidate for the seat.

Following the political transition in 2025, he was appointed convener of Munshiganj District BNP during the interim government period. Earlier, he served as the party’s central treasurer for many years before stepping down from active politics in 2020 during the previous Awami League administration.

Born on August 18, 1943, in Dohuri village of Kolma Union under Lohajang upazila in Munshiganj, Sinha completed his early education in Kolkata before studying at Government Tolaram College in Narayanganj and later earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business from the University of Dhaka.

He began his professional career at Habib Bank in 1964 and later joined the family-owned ACI Group in 1975 following his father’s death. From 1983, he served as Managing Director of the group.

Sinha entered student politics during his college years and was elected General Secretary of the student union at Government Tolaram College as a candidate of the Students’ Union. He joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in 1990 and served as its central treasurer until January 22, 2020.

He was elected Member of Parliament twice from Munshiganj-2 constituency, winning the 1996 and 2001 general elections as a BNP candidate.
