Yasin Khan Palash, widely known as ‘Kaila Palash’ and once listed as a top criminal by police, has died while undergoing treatment a week after being shot in the capital’s Rampura area.

He died at Evercare Hospital in the capital around 1:00am on Friday (June 19), confirmed Hatirjheel Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Asaduzzaman.

According to police and eyewitness, Palash was attacked on June 12 near his residence opposite the Bangladesh Television office in Rampura when assailants on motorcycles opened fire and fled the scene. He sustained two bullet injuries to the head.

He was first admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition before being shifted to Evercare Hospital after his health deteriorated further. He remained under intensive care for a week before succumbing to his injuries.

Following the incident, his wife, Mahmudah Khanam, filed a case with Hatirjheel Police Station over the attempted murder, naming Zisan Ahmed Monty as the prime accused along with several others.

Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the case. One of them, Imam Hossain, was detained from Badda area, while another suspect, Maruf Sultan, was arrested from Hatirjheel.

Investigators said Imam was allegedly riding the motorcycle used in the attack, while Maruf was found loitering suspiciously near the scene.

Authorities said the arrested individuals were not initially named in the case but were later linked to the incident through ongoing investigations. Efforts are continuing to identify others involved and determine the motive behind the attack.

Palash had previously been convicted in a murder case involving Jubo Dal leader Mizanur Rahman Mizan. A trial court had sentenced him to death in the 2002 Rampura murder case, later commuted to life imprisonment by the High Court. He was recently released on bail before the shooting incident.
