A violent attack linked to extortion demands took place at a construction firm in the capital’s Pallabi area on Friday (July 11), leaving one official injured by gunfire.

The incident took place around 5.00pm at ‘AK Builders’ in the Albdirtek area.

According to company officials, a local individual named Jamil had recently demanded Tk 5 crore in extortion from the firm. After the demand was not met, a group of 30–40 armed individuals stormed the premises and opened fire indiscriminately.

Shoriful Islam, an official of AK Builders, sustained bullet injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Kurmitola General Hospital.

Amimul Ehsan, son of AK Builders Chairman Md. Qayum Ali Khan, claimed this is the third such attack on their business. Previous assaults also involved looting of equipment, including CCTV cameras.

Pallabi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shafiul Islam confirmed that police were dispatched to the scene and that an investigation is underway. “No case has been filed yet. Once those involved are identified, legal action will be taken,” he said.
