Extortion not fully eliminated but under control: Home Adviser
Extortion on the roads has not been completely eradicated but is now under control, according to Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. “Extortion on the roads has not ended, but we have brought it under control,” he said.
He made the remarks on Wednesday while speaking to journalists at the meeting room of the Ministry of Agriculture in the Bangladesh Secretariat.
Assuring that there is an adequate stock of fertiliser, the adviser warned that action will be taken against anyone attempting to hoard supplies. He added that fertiliser dealership will not be awarded on political considerations.
He said vegetable prices will remain at a tolerable level. “There is no shortage of onions; prices have decreased. Some traders pushed for imports, but we did not allow it. Locally produced onions have begun reaching the market. We must be farmer-friendly. Farmers did not get fair prices for potatoes, but prices are now rising slightly.” He added that cold storage will be allowed to hold potatoes until December.
Regarding the appointment of Superintendents of Police (SP), the adviser said, “Three categories; A, B and C have been created for SP appointments. Among the 64 districts, 18 officers have been appointed first. No meritorious officer has been excluded.”
