Extradition process to begin with Kamal: Press Secretary
The chief adviser’s press secretary, Shafiqul Alam, has said that India is considering Bangladesh’s request to extradite Sheikh Hasina after her conviction in the July genocide case. However, the process will begin with former home minister and convicted fugitive Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.
He made these comments in a status posted on his verified Facebook account on November 28, Friday.
In his post, Shafiqul Alam wrote that he believes Sheikh Hasina, Kamal and other Awami League leaders accused in the July incident will one day face court. According to him, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal—known as the “Butcher of Dhaka”—will be extradited to Bangladesh very soon to face trial.
He stated that various crimes committed during Hasina’s nearly 16-year rule are now becoming increasingly clear. He added that Kamal’s role in incidents such as genocide and enforced disappearances will draw even more attention from international media.
The press secretary further said that no matter how much money Kamal or other Awami League leaders spend, they will not be able to evade responsibility forever. He expressed hope that if the nation remains determined, justice will be ensured for the victims of the July genocide and past human rights violations.
