Facebook post on CA was my personal opinion: Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb
Faiz Ahmed Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser of the interim government, has clarified that a recent Facebook post concerning the possible resignation of Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus was solely his personal opinion and should not be interpreted as an official statement.
In a new post made Friday afternoon, Taiyeb stated, “The status I posted regarding the Honorable Chief Adviser is my personal opinion. I kindly request that it not be treated as news. Thank you.” He has since removed the original post from his timeline.
This clarification comes amid swirling rumors that Chief Adviser Dr. Yunus is considering stepping down. On Thursday, following a meeting with Dr. Yunus, Nahid Islam, Convenor of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), told the BBC that the Chief Adviser was contemplating resignation. In response, Special Assistant Taiyeb had earlier posted his views on the matter.
“The Chief Adviser will not resign,” he wrote. “Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus does not seek power, but he is essential for Bangladesh and for ensuring a peaceful democratic transition.”
In the now-deleted post, Taiyeb also commented on the anticipated timeline for the national election: “I expect the election to take place sometime between April and May, once all necessary preparations are complete. This is, however, my personal opinion. All essential reforms must be implemented during this period, including the July Accord.”
He emphasized that the authority to announce the exact election date rests solely with Dr. Yunus: “According to the roadmap extending from December to June, only Sir has the mandate to declare the election date. No one else can usurp that authority.”
