Facebook removes Students Against Discrimination page
Facebook has removed the official page of the Students Against Discrimination, the platform that led the July 2024 uprising. The action was taken on Wednesday, July 1, following multiple copyright infringement reports, the social media giant said.
Shahadat Hossain, office secretary of the dissolved committee of the Students Against Discrimination, first raised the issue in a Facebook post around 2:25 pm. After his post, the page could no longer be found through search.
In his post, Shahadat Hossain wrote that attempts were being made to remove the central Facebook page of the Students Against Discrimination, the platform of the July uprising. "This attempt is being made through coordinated reporting from bot accounts supporting the fugitive Awami League. A photocard about the July uprising was also removed last night," he said.
He added that the page contains a sequential archive of events from the start of the uprising to subsequent important moments, including documentation of almost all key events from July last year. "Therefore, the existence of this page is extremely important for preserving history and for future generations," he said.
