Faizul Karim’s petition to be declared mayor rejected

The Election Tribunal in Barishal has rejected a petition filed by Syed Mohammad Faizul Karim, Senior Nayeb-e-Ameer of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, seeking to be declared the elected mayor of Barishal.

The verdict was delivered by Judge Md. Hasibul Hasan of the Election Tribunal and Senior Assistant Judge of Barishal Sadar on Monday, May 5 at 12:30pm.

Faizul Karim’s lawyer, Sheikh Abdullah Nasir, confirmed the decision, stating that the court dismissed the petition citing reasons such as the delay in filing. However, he mentioned their intention to appeal to a higher court.

KM Shariatullah, the party’s central media coordinator, said, “We will soon go to the higher court to seek justice.”

Faizul Karim, the Islami Andolan Bangladesh candidate in the 2023 Barishal City Corporation election, filed the petition on April 17 to be declared mayor. The court scheduled May 5 for the hearing on April 24.
