Fake facebook accounts in Information Minister’s name, Ministry issues alert

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has urged everyone to remain cautious about fake Facebook accounts and pages being operated in the name of Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon.

The appeal was made in a press release issued by the ministry on Thursday. The release stated that there is only one verified (blue badge) Facebook account in the name of Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon. The minister has no connection or approval with any other Facebook accounts or pages operated in his name.

The ministry said that recently multiple fake Facebook accounts and pages are being run using the minister’s name, identity and photos. Unauthorised statements, misleading information and various types of content are being circulated in his name from these accounts and pages, which is completely illegal and unethical.

The press release requested all concerned not to take into account any information or content circulated from these fake accounts or pages. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting also called upon people to inform the appropriate authorities about such fake accounts and pages.
