Fakhrul alleges conspiracy to sabotage elections
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that a vested group is conspiring to sabotage Bangladesh’s upcoming national elections and warned that extremist forces are attempting to divide the nation.
Speaking at a conference of minority ethnic representatives in Mymensingh’s Town Hall Auditorium on Saturday (August 30), Fakhrul said, “After years of monstrous fascist rule, an opportunity has come to build a new Bangladesh through a mass uprising. In this new Bangladesh, equal rights of every citizen will be ensured—no one will be called a minority or a majority; we are all Bangladeshis.”
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, who joined the event virtually as chief guest, outlined the party’s vision of a “Rainbow Bangladesh” that guarantees equal status for all ethnic groups. He emphasized that the BNP is committed to inclusivity and participation of minority groups in every tier of its organizational structure.
Fakhrul further stressed that the 31-point reform plan announced by Tarique Rahman would guide the country’s future politics. “Just as we fought together in 1971 for independence, today we must unite again under Tarique Rahman’s leadership to restore democracy and people’s rights,” he said.
The event, presided over by Bangladesh Nationalist Minority Ethnic Group President Mrigen Hagidge, brought together representatives of 34 ethnic groups from 14 districts, alongside senior BNP leaders including Joint Secretary General Syed Emran Saleh Prince and Co-Organizing Secretary Abu Wahab Akand Wahid.
