Fakhrul demands trial of AL alongside Hasina for genocide

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for the prosecution of not only Sheikh Hasina but also the entire Awami League for their alleged involvement in genocide.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday after visiting Neuroscience Hospital to check on the health of the party chairperson’s advisers, Dr. Abdul Quddus and Dr. Sirajuddin, Fakhrul said Sheikh Hasina is solely responsible for the genocide. However, he stressed that the Awami League as a whole should face justice for the crimes.

“Reform and justice can and must proceed together. These are not conflicting processes,” Fakhrul stated. He urged all political parties to take responsibility for steering the country in the right direction and emphasized the necessity of an elected government to meet the people’s needs.

Fakhrul further accused that BNP has been the biggest victim of enforced disappearances and killings, asserting that those who supported fascism should also be held accountable.

Later in the day, Fakhrul visited another hospital to inquire about the condition of renowned singer Farida Parveen, who is undergoing treatment. He also extended financial support to her family on behalf of the BNP.
