Fakhrul for quick elections under Tarique Rahman's leadership
Claiming that the Hasina-led government has fallen due to the movement led by Tarique Rahman, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir demanded quick and fair elections under the leadership of the party’s acting chairman.
Demanding that all 'false and baseless cases' against party leaders and activists be withdrawn immediately and that elections be held quickly, he said that the people must be given back their right to vote.
He said this while addressing a BNP rally at Jatrabari ground in Dhamrai Municipality, Dhaka district on Monday (February 24) afternoon.
Mirza Fakhrul said that even though the Sheikh Hasina government has fallen, their conspiracy is not over yet. They are hatching various conspiracies against the country from India. This autocratic government had taken the country to the abyss.
He called on the party leaders and activists to approach the people with love and not by intimidating them and to reach the people's doorsteps with Tarique Zia's 31-point demands.
Dhaka district BNP held this rally as part of its nationwide program on various demands including keeping the price increase of essential commodities at a tolerable level, improving the deteriorating law and order situation, announcing a quick electoral roadmap for a quick transition to a democratic path, and confronting various conspiracies of fascism that have fallen in the state.
Regarding Dr. Yunus, he said: "We have put a worthy person in power in the country. He is a Nobel laureate."
"The students who brought down the government by protesting could not vote during Hasina's tenure. Some parties want local elections first. But local elections should not create anarchy in the country. I request the interim government not to throw the country into anarchy again. We have been protesting for 15 years. Speaking against BNP will not work. We don't want reforms. We have shown reforms," he added.
Dhaka Divisional Organizing Secretary Nazrul Islam Azad was the special guest at the rally chaired by Dhaka District BNP President Khandaker Abu Asfaq and moderated by General Secretary Nipun Roy. Mahila Dal General Secretary Sultana Ahmed, Dhaka District BNP Organizing Secretary Barrister Irfan Ibne Ami, Dhamrai Upazila BNP President Tamiz Uddin, Dhaka District Jubo Dal President Yasin Ferdous Murad, and five upazila and local leaders spoke.
