BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has praised the developmental initiatives of Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the Interim Government, calling him a visionary leader.

Speaking at the “NRB Connect Day: Empowering Global Bangladeshis” event in New York on Saturday, Mirza Fakhrul said Dr. Yunus had set a unique precedent by participating in the United Nations General Assembly alongside leaders from various political parties. “The world has seen that we are united in post-revolution activities. We will remain united for the country’s needs in the future,” he added.

He further remarked, “Dr. Yunus is farsighted and enjoys global recognition. He envisions a prosperous future for the country, a vision shared by our party founder, the late President Ziaur Rahman. I see a reflection of him in Dr. Yunus.”

Mirza Fakhrul also expressed optimism about the upcoming general election, scheduled in five months, saying, “We hope that whoever forms the government will work to advance the country with dedication and unity.”

Dr. Yunus delivered the keynote address at the event, which was attended by Bangladeshi political leaders accompanying him. The program also featured a presentation by Chaudhury Ashique Mahmud Bin Harun, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority, highlighting Bangladesh’s economic progress over the past 15 months since the July uprising. He thanked the Bangladeshi diaspora for contributing to over 21% growth in remittances and highlighted government efforts to create an investment-friendly environment.

The event included an interactive panel discussion titled “Bridging Borders: Current Affairs and Diaspora Engagement”, moderated by Dr. Yunus’ special envoy Lutfe Siddiqui. Panelists included Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Advisor Dr. Asif Najrul and two other officials.

Other participants included Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Naib-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, and Akhtar Hossain, Member-Secretary of the National Citizens Party, who shared their political perspectives for Bangladesh post-uprising.

Another panel, “Shaping Tomorrow: The Future of Bangladesh”, moderated by National Security Advisor Khalilur Rahman, featured panelists NCP leader Tasnim Zara, BNP leader Humayun Kabir, and Jamaat leader Nakibur Rahman.
