Fakhrul urges vigilance to ensure peaceful Durga Puja
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called on citizens to remain alert so that no untoward incident disrupts the celebrations of Sharadiya Durga Puja and Vijaya Dashami.
In a message issued on Wednesday, signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed, Fakhrul said Durga Puja has been observed from the medieval period to the present day as a social and cultural festival while maintaining its core religious essence. “Religious festivals are not confined within communal boundaries; they transcend divisions and are celebrated with all people, inspiring unity in the human spirit,” he said.
The BNP leader urged citizens of all faiths and communities to uphold harmony and security during the festivities. “I call upon everyone to remain vigilant so that the evil activities of destructive forces cannot in any way disrupt the Durga Puja celebrations,” Fakhrul said.
Extending his greetings to the Hindu community, he said: “Durga Puja and Vijaya Dashami are the largest religious and social festivals of Hindus. On this occasion, I convey my heartfelt greetings and warm congratulations to all Hindu devotees and wish them continued happiness, peace, and prosperity.”
Fakhrul noted that Durga Puja holds a luminous and special place in the lives of Bengali-speaking Hindus and has long been celebrated with grandeur and heritage in Bangladesh. “Goddess Durga is the embodiment of strength and courage. Festivals everywhere bring divine joy and goodwill among people,” he added.
Highlighting the spirit of inclusivity, he said: “There are no restrictions in the realm of festivals; they are a place of unity for all. The history and heritage rooted in Bangladesh uphold religious freedom and values. The core message of Durga Puja is the triumph of good over evil.”
The BNP secretary general further stressed: “Communal harmony is part of our national heritage. We are all Bangladeshis—this is our pride and our only identity.”
