Family demands fair probe into Dr Dhiipra's unnatural death
Family members, colleagues, and fellow students of Dr Nafisa Tabassum Dhiipra, a former student of Bangladesh Medical College, have demanded a fair investigation and post-mortem examination into what they claim was an 'unnatural death'.
They held a human chain in front of BIRDEM Hospital in the capital on Friday, June 12, to press for justice.
Participants alleged that Dr Dhiipra had been suffering from long-term abuse at her in-laws' home. They claimed she had been receiving mental health treatment on a doctor's advice.
The family further alleged that she was locked up and starved for three consecutive days before her death. They stressed the need for a neutral post-mortem and full investigation to uncover the truth and ensure that any criminal act does not remain hidden.
According to family sources, Dr Dhiipra had been in the medical profession since 2018. She married her classmate Rahmat Rashid Siam in 2020. On June 4, she suffered a cardiac arrest at her in-laws' home and died while being rushed to BIRDEM Hospital.
