The family of Ilias Kanchan, founder of Nirapad Sarak Chai (NISCHA) and veteran actor, has expressed frustration over false death rumours circulating on social media, confirming he is alive and undergoing treatment in London.

His son and acting chairman of NISCHA, Mirajul Moin Joy, issued a statement from Canada on Saturday (October 11), urging people not to spread or believe unverified news. “My father is ill but alive. Please pray for his recovery and do not spread rumours,” he said.

Joy revealed that Kanchan was diagnosed with a brain tumour earlier this year. On April 9, he was admitted to Anwar Khan Modern Hospital in Dhaka, where an MRI confirmed the tumour. He was flown to London on April 26 for advanced treatment.

On August 5, a partial brain tumour removal surgery was conducted at Wellington Hospital under Professor Dimitrios. Full removal was deemed too risky, potentially leading to paralysis or loss of speech. Remaining tumour portions are being treated with radiation and chemotherapy.

Joy added that well-wishers around the world have been holding prayer sessions, especially on Friday (October 10), and the family is grateful for the support.

However, Joy condemned certain YouTubers and Facebook users for spreading misleading videos for views. “These false reports are hurting my father’s fans and our family. We strongly condemn such actions,” he stated.
