Family files case 2 months after attack on Nural Pagla shrine in Rajbari,

In Goalanda Upazila, Rajbari, more than two months after the attack on Nurul Haq Molla, also known as Nural Pagla, the family has filed a case.

On Thursday, his sister-in-law Shirin Begum lodged the complaint at Goalanda Magistrate Court. The court’s Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamjid Hossen took the complaint into cognisance and directed the PBI for investigation.

Confirming the case, the plaintiff’s lawyer Shariful Islam said 96 people were named as accused, and 400 to 500 more were listed as unidentified accused.

The main accused in the case is retired principal Khandakar Abdul Muhit of Government Goalanda Kamrul Islam College. Other notable accused include Jalal Uddin Pramanik, Amir of Goalanda Upazila Jammat-e-Islami; Ayub Ali Khan, senior joint secretary of Upazila BNP and member secretary of Iman Akida Raksha Committee; Golam Mahabub Rabbani, former vice chairman of Upazila Parishad and former president of Municipal Awami League; Maulana Aminul Islam, principal of Aljamia Nizamia Arabia Qaumi Madrasa; Abdul Alim, general secretary of Islamic Movement Bangladesh Upazila branch; Mufti Azam, Imam of Model Mosque; Hafez Abu Said, Imam of Boro Mosque, currently in jail; Rakib Hasan and Najmul Islam, joint coordinators of NCP Goalanda Upazila branch; lawyer Makim Mondol of Dhaka Judge Court; Mehedul Hasan Akkas, correspondent of Daily Nayadiganta in Goalanda Upazila.

On 5 September, after Friday prayers, a protest rally was organised at Goalanda Bazar’s Shahid Mahiuddin Ansar Club under the banner of Upazila Iman Akida Raksha Committee and Tauhidi Janta. A group of people repeatedly attacked Nurul Paglar Durbar from 3pm to 6pm. The attackers exhumed Nurul Paglar’s body alleging improper burial according to Sharia. Eventually, the body was burnt at Padma Mor on Dhaka-Khulna Highway.

The attack injured at least 50 people, including 10 to 12 policemen. One person, Rasel Molla, died from injuries. Rasel Molla’s father Azad Molla filed a case on 8 September at Goalanda Ghat Police Station, accusing the perpetrators of murder, attack on the durbar, vandalism, looting, and burning the body on Dhaka-Khulna Highway. 3,500 to 4,000 unidentified people were named, and 12 people have been arrested.

Additionally, on 6 September, Assistant Sub-Inspector Selim Molla filed another case against 3,000 to 3,500 unidentified people over attacks on police and vehicle damage, leading to the arrest of 16 people.
