Family finds Boby 25 years after she left home, but only after her death
A family in Bogura has finally found their long-lost relative Boby Begum, who had left home in anger 25 years ago—but only after her tragic death following a brutal attack at a railway station in Narsingdi.
The woman, known locally as Boby Begum, was identified as Wahida Begum by her family after photos of the incident went viral on social media. She had been living at Methikanda Railway Station in Raipura for nearly two decades after getting off a train one day and never leaving.
On the night of July 4, several assailants entered her room demanding the money she had saved over the years. When she refused, they assaulted her and fled with her savings. She died on July 8 while being taken to hospital.
On Sunday, 13 family members, including three of her siblings, travelled from Bogura to visit her grave at Nurpur Cemetery adjacent to the station. Her relatives said both her parents were speech-impaired, and of their eight children, seven were born with the same condition.
"She left home about 25 years ago after an argument. One brother searched for three years but found no trace, and after he passed away, no one could continue," said Saikat Islam, her younger sister's son-in-law.
"After 25 years, we were finally able to visit her grave—that alone has brought us peace," he said, adding that any savings she left should be donated to mosques or orphanages.
Police have arrested five suspects, who were remanded on Sunday. The case was originally filed as robbery and assault but has been upgraded to murder.
