Farida Parveen to be laid in rest in Kushtia after last tribute in Dhaka

Legendary folk singer Farida Parveen, known as the "Lalon Konna," will be buried in Kushtia on Sunday (September 14) following tributes and funeral prayers in Dhaka.

Farida Parveen was paid her last respects at Dhaka’s Central Shaheed Minar on Sunday morning, where admirers, artistes, and people from all walks of life gathered to honour her legacy.

Her first namaz-e-janaza was held at Tejgaon Tajkunipara Mosque, followed by a second at the Dhaka University Central Mosque at 12:30pm.

Following the second janaza, she will be taken to Kushtia, where a third and final janaza will be held before her burial beside her parents at the municipal cemetery, her husband and noted flutist Ustad Gazi Abdul Hakim confirmed.

Born on December 31, 1954, in Singra, Natore, Farida Parveen began her musical journey in 1968 and went on to become the foremost interpreter of Lalon’s songs, earning the title “Lalon Kanya.” For over five decades, she captivated audiences with renditions such as "Khachar Bhitor Ochin Pakhi" and "Barir Kache Arshinagar."

She passed away at a Dhaka hospital on Saturday night at the age of 71.
