Farmer beaten to death over Facebook status, woman arrested

A farmer named Nazrul Islam Khan, 60, has been allegedly beaten to death over a dispute over a status posted on Facebook in Kalukhali, Rajbari. Police have arrested a woman named Golap Begum in this incident.


The incident took place in front of his own house in Boalia village under the upazila around 10am on Friday (September 25). The deceased Nazrul Islam Khan was a resident of that village. The family has informed that his wife Johura Begum and daughter Runa have been seriously injured in the attack.

The deceased’s eldest daughter Tahmina Akter alleged that a dispute was created with neighbours Iman Sardar, his wife Bulu, son Tuhin and daughter Golapi Begum centering a Facebook status given by her younger sister. Following that they attacked the members of Nazrul Islam Khan’s family on Friday morning.

Tahmina Akter alleged that during the attack the family members were beaten with bricks and sticks. In this Nazrul Islam Khan died on the spot. At that time his wife and daughter were also injured.

Getting the news of the incident senior police officers including Assistant Superintendent of Police of Pangsha Circle Md Rakibur Rahman inspected the scene. A stick has been seized from there.

Assistant Superintendent of Police of Pangsha Circle Md Rakibur Rahman said the incident of beating farmer Nazrul Islam Khan to death has taken place centering a trivial matter. A stick has been seized from the scene. A woman named Golapi has been arrested in the same incident.

He further said the body has been recovered and sent to Rajbari morgue for autopsy. Police operation is under way to arrest the others involved in the incident.
