Farmer dies of heatstroke waiting in line for oil in Rajshahi

A farmer has died from heatstroke while waiting in a long queue to collect oil from a petrol pump in Kesharhat, Mohanpur upazila, Rajshahi.

The incident occurred around 12:00 pm on Wednesday, April 22, at the Kesharhat filling station.

The deceased, Abdul Alam, 60, also known as Alauddin, was the son of Nasir Ali of Baksail village in Kesharhat municipal area.

According to witnesses and family members, Alauddin had come to the petrol pump in the morning to collect oil for irrigating his boro paddy field and was standing in line for a long time. At one point, he fell ill due to the intense heat and collapsed on the ground.

Locals rushed him to Mohanpur Upazila Health Complex, where the duty doctor declared him dead.

Upon receiving news of the incident, Mohanpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Fahima Binte Akhtar visited the spot. She said, "Upon receiving the news, I went to the spot and learned that the man died from heatstroke. If his family applies for government assistance or compensation, the upazila administration will provide all possible cooperation."

Sub-Inspector Yamin Ali of Mohanpur Police Station said police have visited the scene. As the family had no complaint, the body was handed over for burial after completing legal formalities.
