Police have recovered the blood-stained body of a farmer with his legs tied from an irrigation shed in Pirganj upazila of Rangpur.

The deceased, Mofizar Rahman, was found in the Umarpur area under Baro Alampur Union on Thursday morning (May 7). He was reportedly assigned to guard a Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) irrigation transformer at night.

According to family members and local residents, Mofizar Rahman went to the irrigation field shed on Wednesday night, as part of his regular duty to guard the equipment.

The incident came to light when a local farmer, Shahidul Islam, went to the field with cattle and found the shed door open and the transformer box damaged on Thursday morning. Upon entering, he discovered Mofizar Rahman’s body lying inside with his legs tied and signs of severe injury.

Hearing his cries, nearby villagers rushed to the scene.

Locals suspect that criminals entered the shed at night to steal the irrigation transformer. When the victim tried to resist, he was killed, and the transformer was stolen.

Police from Pirganj Police Station later recovered the body and launched an investigation into the incident.

Officer-in-Charge Nazmul Haque said, “We have recovered a body from Umarpur area. The matter is being investigated with importance. Details will be known later.”
