Farmer tied up, hacked to death in Pabna
A farmer named Afsar Sarder, 45, was tied up and hacked to death by miscreants in Santhia upazila, Pabna. The incident occurred around 11:30 pm on Tuesday, March 31, in the Ghughudah Eastpara village of Gaurigram union, Santhia. The deceased was the son of Kazi Sarder.
According to locals, neighbours heard Afsar's screams and rushed to the scene, finding him lying in a pool of blood. His hands and feet were tied, and he had multiple stab wounds from sharp weapons across his body. He was taken in critical condition to Santhia Upazila Health Complex, where the duty doctor declared him dead.
Police arrived at the scene, recovered the body and sent it to Pabna General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Local sources said a long-standing feud exists between two groups in Ghughudah village. Several clashes and deaths have occurred in the past over the dispute. Fresh tension has gripped the area following the latest killing. Locals fear the situation may deteriorate further.
The deceased's mother, Abeda Khatun, said her son was a simple, innocent farmer who had no enmity with anyone.
Local resident Abdul Karim also said Afsar Sarder was a harmless person with no known disputes. He suspects it was a pre-planned murder.
Santhia Police Station Investigation Officer Abdul Latif said preliminary investigations suggest the murder may have resulted from enmity. Three people have been brought to the police station for questioning.
