Farooki removes Bangabandhu's portrait from Cultural Ministry
Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, the newly appointed cultural adviser, has removed the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from his office of Cultural Ministry.
Kabi Nazrul Institute Executive Director Latiful Islam Shiblee posted a status on his Facebook account on Tuesday night.
He wrote: "To inform those who saw Sheikh Mujib's photo above our heads in Monday's picture, Farooki today removed the picture of fascism icon Sheikh Mujib from his office and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. Perhaps, Farooki was the first to do this work in the Secretariat. I have seen that spirit in him, he will keep the dignity of our faith, inshallah."
He writes: "Farooki has the qualifications to run this ministry. There is evidence of his association with fascism in the past, as well as evidence of his opposition to them. I know very well how he has been oppressed by Awami fascists."
The executive director of Nazrul Institute writes: "When we looked helplessly for the support of celebrity intellectuals of the country during the intense days of July, we found no one by our side except one or two. Farooki was one of the two. His status at that time gave courage to many young people."
Meanwhile, apart from the Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban, the photos of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman were also removed from various offices of the Secretariat on Monday and Tuesday.
