Faruk Ahmed takes charge as new Highway Police chief
Additional Inspector General of Police Faruk Ahmed has taken charge as the new chief of Highway Police. He assumed the responsibility on Tuesday, July 7.
Highway Police said Faruk Ahmed, an officer of the 17th BCS (Police) cadre, joined Bangladesh Police as Assistant Superintendent of Police on February 22, 1998. He holds a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology.
In a career spanning nearly three decades, he has served in various important units including RAB, DMP, CMP, Bangladesh Police Academy, APBn and CID. He has also served as Superintendent of Police in Moulvibazar and Kishoreganj. He has experience working in UN peacekeeping missions in Liberia and Darfur.
Faruk Ahmed was promoted to Additional IGP on June 4. He has also attended professional training and seminars in various countries including India, China and the US.
Highway Police expressed hope that under Faruk Ahmed's leadership, safe, disciplined and technology-driven traffic management, road accident prevention, law and order maintenance and people-friendly policing services on the country's highways will become more dynamic.
