Fascist allies, India behind Khagrachhari unrest: Home adviser
Unrest in Khagrachhari is being fuelled by neighbouring India and allies of fascism, Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has alleged.
He made the remarks on Monday, September 29, while speaking to journalists after inaugurating the construction of five new police station buildings under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in Ramna.
“A vested quarter is trying to obstruct the peaceful celebration of Durga Puja. The same group is behind the incidents in Khagrachhari. These are happening with support from India and fascist quarters. Maximum measures are being taken to prevent such incidents. The Adviser on Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs is already there, overseeing the matter and engaging with local leaders,” he said.
The Home Affairs Adviser further stated that some armed miscreants fired shots from the hills. “These weapons are coming from outside the country. To tackle this problem, cooperation from all is required,” he added.
Regarding Durga Puja, he noted: “Our major religious festival began yesterday. At this time, no one should create any disorder or block roads. Everyone should help ensure the Puja is celebrated smoothly.”
When asked about the tourists stranded in the hill tracts, he said most of them had already been brought back safely.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam, DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali, along with Additional IGPs, DIGs, and other senior police officials were present at the programme.
