Police have arrested the father of a three-year-old boy on charge of killing his son in Badda, capital. The deceased child was identified as Habib. His body was sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy on Tuesday morning, April 28.

According to police, the incident occurred around 9:30 pm on Monday, April 27, in the West Be raid area of Badda.

Local sources said rickshaw puller Shahin, his wife Shilpi Khatun, a domestic worker, and their two children lived in the house. At the time of the incident, the mother was away from home. When she returned, she found the door locked from inside.

Despite repeated calls, the door was not opened. Local residents gathered. When the door was eventually opened, the accused Shahin himself reportedly admitted to killing his child. Neighbours entered the room and found the child lying motionless on the bed. They then detained Shahin.

Police received information through 999 and arrived at the scene around 11:00 pm. They recovered the child's body and arrested the father, taking him to the police station.

During initial interrogation, the father confessed to strangling the child to death, police said. According to family and neighbours, he was addicted to drugs and often pressured his wife for money to buy drugs, as well as subjecting her to abuse.

Police said it was still not clear why he killed his own child. An investigation is ongoing.
