Father, brother killed over property dispute in Dinajpur

A father and a son were killed in Chirirbandar upazila over the division of ancestral property. Another brother was seriously injured in the incident.

The incident took place in Champatli Mandalpara village of the upazila around 6:30am on Tuesday (May 12). Police said the two accused brothers fled after the incident.

The deceased were identified as 70-year-old Dulu Mia and his son from his first marriage, Kabil Hossain, 32. Habil Hossain, 30, was injured.

According to police and local sources, there was a long-standing dispute between the children of Dulu Mia's two wives over about 16 bighas of land. That dispute eventually turned into a bloody clash.

According to the complaint, two sons from the second marriage, Sadiqul Islam and Shakib, entered the house in the morning and got into a fight with their father. At one stage, Dulu Mia was attacked with a sharp weapon. He died on the spot.

When they came forward to save their father, the first party's sons, Kabil and Habil, were also attacked. Kabil was seriously injured and later died after being taken to the hospital. The injured Habil is being treated locally.

The two accused brothers fled immediately after the incident.

Chirirbandar Police Station OC Mahmudul Nabi said that the murder took place due to a property dispute. Preparations are underway to recover the body and send it for autopsy. A murder case is under process in this incident and a drive is underway to arrest the accused.
