Father, daughter among three killed in road crash in Meherpur
Three people, including a father and his young daughter, were killed after a truck rammed into an electric three-wheeler (e-bike) in Gangni upazila of Meherpur.
The accident took place around noon in the Olinagar area on the Meherpur–Kushtia highway on Thursday (June 4).
Uttam Kumar Das, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gangni Police Station confirmed this, saying, "The accident also left one person injured, who is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital."
The deceased were identified as e-bike driver Ariful Islam, 32, and his daughter Afrin, 4, of Uttar Shalika Matpara village in Meherpur Sadar upazila, and Akbar Ali, 10, son of Sajib Ali from Jhikargachha upazila in Jashore.
Police and local sources said the e-bike, carrying passengers from Shalika towards Bamondi, was rammed by a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction in the Olinagar area. The impact left the vehicle badly mangled and caused serious injuries to multiple passengers.
Locals rushed the injured to Gangni Upazila Health Complex and Kushtia General Hospital, where doctors declared Ariful Islam dead. Afrin and Akbar Ali later died while undergoing treatment.
Police said both vehicles have been seized. Legal procedures are underway, and the body of the driver remains under police custody.
