Father dies from shock after daughter’s abduction, 2 Arrested

Police on Tuesday arrested two men in connection with the abduction, rape, and abuse of a young girl in Sylhet. The arrestees are Mustafa Mia (57) from Kulaura, Moulvibazar, and Zainal Mia (58) from Cumilla.

According to the victim's family, the girl was abducted on the evening of December 31 from Kamalganj of Moulvibazar, and taken to Sylhet by the perpetrators in a private car. Mustafa, Zainal, and several other men are accused of holding her captive for three days, subjecting her to physical abuse before selling her to a criminal gang for Tk300,000. During the transfer, the victim managed to escape and sought refuge nearby. Her family was notified, rescued her, and took her to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital for treatment.

The situation took a tragic turn when the girl’s father, upon hearing about the abduction, suffered a heart attack and passed away on the night of January 1.

The victim’s uncle said, "My brother-in-law passed away from a heart attack upon hearing about my niece’s abduction. We are seeking justice for the suffering she has endured."

The victim’s brother said, "Since we filed the case, we’ve been receiving threats. They attempted to abduct and sell my sister. My father passed away from a heart attack after hearing about her kidnapping."

In this regard, Shamshernagar Police Outpost In-charge Zia Md Mustafizur Rahman said, "A case has been filed in connection with the incident. The two main accused named in the complaint have been arrested in Sylhet. Efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspects after interrogating the detained individuals."
