Father held over killing of two-month-old infant in Feni
Police in Feni’s Fulgazi upazila have detained a man after allegations that he fatally assaulted his two-month-old son by slamming him to the ground and killed him.
The deceased infant, Md. Junaed, was the son of Md. Sultan, 30, a resident of Kakorogora union under Durgapur upazila of Netrokona.
The incident took place at rented residence in the Member Colony area of Fulgazi on Thursday night (June 11).
According to police and family accounts, The infant’s mother, Runa Akter, alleged that her husband violently threw the child to the ground, killing him.
Sultan, however, claimed that the baby accidentally slipped from his arms while he was playing with him.
Runa Akter also alleged that her husband has long been addicted to drugs and had subjected her to physical and mental abuse. She said Sultan sent her to a nearby shop to buy a drink, and upon her return, she found their son unconscious.
She further alleged that the father initially prevented taking the child to hospital. The infant was later taken to Feni 250-bed General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Duty doctor Dr. Tanveer Mahmud said the child was brought in dead and preliminary observations indicated severe head injuries.
SM Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Fulgazi Police Station, confirmed that police recovered the body and sent it to Feni General Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
He said the father has been detained for questioning, adding that the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy report.
