Father killed for filing rape complaint against daughter

A man named Kalim Ullah, 50, was hacked to death in Goainghat, Sylhet, after he filed a rape complaint on behalf of his daughter. Police have arrested his nephew Amir Uddin, 26, in connection with the incident, while his brother Sofir Ullah remains absconding.

The incident occurred around 2pm on Saturday, August 15.

Police said allegations of rape had been raised against Jubair Ahmed, 18, son of Kalim Ullah's brother Sofir Ullah. After a local arbitration failed to provide any remedy, Kalim Ullah filed a written complaint with Goainghat Police Station on Saturday morning.

Following the complaint, police went to arrest Jubair Ahmed but learned he was working in the haor fields. Kalim Ullah accompanied police to the haor. At that point, Sofir Ullah ran from behind with a sharp weapon and hacked Kalim Ullah indiscriminately. He collapsed critically injured and was declared dead at Goainghat Upazila Health Complex.

Goainghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Omar Faruk Morol said the body was sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Hospital morgue for autopsy. Amir Uddin has been arrested and an investigation is ongoing.
