Father sent to jail in Nirjona murder case

Md. Alim Hossain Akash, 40, the prime accused and father of 16-year-old Arfana Hossain Nirjona, in the sensational murder case that shocked Khulna cit, has been sent to jail.

Khulna Metropolitan Magistrate-1 Md. Asadur Zaman passed the order on Sunday after recording the accused's statement in this case.

Earlier, on Saturday (July 18), a joint team of RAB-6 Special Company and Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) conducted the operation based on secret information and arrested Akash, officials said.

According to the case statement and police sources, Nirjona was allegedly killed on the night of July 8. Her body was later found inside a plastic sack in the Prantika Residential Area under Khulna Sadar Police Station. Police recovered the body and sent it to Khulna Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Following the recovery, Sub-Inspector Lovely Akter of Khulna Sadar Police Station filed a murder case against unidentified accused persons.

During the investigation and interrogation, police found that Nirjona was allegedly killed by her father Alim Hossain Akash and mother Arifa Yasmin Sima over a family dispute. The victim’s mother was arrested earlier and later gave a confessional statement before a court.

Meanwhile, Akash had been absconding since the incident. After his arrest, he was handed over to KMP’s Sadar Police Station for further legal action.

The arrest of the prime accused has brought relief among local residents following the shocking murder.
