Father-daughter among 4 killed in separate road crash in capital

Four people, including a father and his daughter, were killed in two separate road accidents in the capital on Friday night (March 6) while returning from Eid shopping.

In the first incident at Science Lab, Sajju Ahmed Sumon, an office assistant of the Public Works Department, and his daughter Trisha, 21, were struck by a speeding sand-laden truck around 9:00pm. Sajju Ahmed died on the spot, while Trisha, critically injured, was declared dead at the hospital.

Police have taken the truck and its driver into custody, and the bodies have been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue for postmortem, according to SI Mahmudul Hasan of New Market Police Station.

The second accident took place at Tejgaon Seven Roads, where CNG autorickshaw driver Md. Alim, 65 and passenger Md. Harunur Rahman, 32, lost control while making a U-turn, crashing into a road island.

Both were declared dead at the hospital. Harunur’s wife and sister, who were also in the vehicle, sustained injuries and are receiving treatment.

DMCH Police Outpost in-charge Inspector Md. Faruk confirmed that the bodies are at the morgue and that investigations into both incidents are underway.
