Father-son die in lightning strike in Thakurgaon

A man and his son were killed in a lightning strike while working in a jute field in Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila.

The incident took place around 3 pm on Wednesday (July 15) in Mahabatpur Ganeshpara village of Jamalpur union of the upazila.

The deceased are Mr. Anwar Ganesh and his son Nimai Ganesh of the village.

According to local sources, the father and son went to work in the jute field next to their house in the morning. When the sky became cloudy and it started raining around noon, they were seriously injured in a sudden lightning strike. They died on the spot.

Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahjahan Ali confirmed the incident and said that Anwar Ganesh and his son Nimai Ganesh died in a sudden lightning strike while cutting jute.

In this incident, the local administration has urged people not to stay in open fields during lightning strikes and to quickly take shelter in safe places if the weather gets bad.
