FDIC shooting to stop, facilities to be turned into research centre: Mahfuz Alam
The Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) studio floors will no longer be used for shooting, as the facilities are being redeveloped into a dedicated research space for film, information and broadcasting adviser Md Mahfuz Alam has announced. All shooting activities will be shifted to Kabirpur Film City.
He made the announcement on Tuesday November 9 while inaugurating Business Automation Service, Cine Archive, a renovated audio recording studio and the Jharna spot at BFDC.
Delivering his speech as chief guest, Mahfuz Alam said BFDC will be transformed into a full-fledged research and development ecosystem—from scripting to distribution.
Expressing his aspiration to elevate Bangladeshi cinema to international standards, he said quality content can ensure Bangladesh a strong position on the global stage.
Speaking on the closure of cinema halls, he stated that plans are underway to establish modern cineplexes in every major city.
He also announced that changes will be brought to the government funding system for cinema productions, saying eligible films will receive financial support irrespective of whether the content is commercial or non-commercial.
BFDC managing director Masuma Rahman presided over the event. Director’s Guild president Shaheen Sumon and actor Bapparaj also addressed the programme. The ceremony concluded with a cultural performance.
