A female police member posted at the women’s barracks of South Keraniganj Police Station in Dhaka has accused Constable Safiur Rahman of rape.

The victim alleged that Safiur recorded a video of the incident and repeatedly raped her in the police barracks over the past six months by threatening to release it. She claimed the most recent assault occurred on the night of August 15. She further stated that when she attempted to file a written complaint at the police station, it was not accepted.

She also said that although she informed several police officers about the incident, they tried to cover it up and even offered her money as a bribe. After she refused, she was transferred to the police lines on August 18, the same day the accused Constable Safiur Rahman was also attached there.

Repeated attempts to contact Constable Safiur Rahman over the phone were unsuccessful, as his mobile remained switched off.

Al-Amin Hossain, the Investigation Officer of South Keraniganj Police Station, told the media, “After the female constable made the allegation, we immediately informed the higher authorities, and an investigation has already begun.”

Responding to the allegation of refusing to register the case, he said, “She never told us that she wanted to file a case.”

Syed Mohammad Akhtar Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of South Keraniganj Police Station, said, “The female police member has not lodged any complaint with me. The Superintendent of Police (SP) is handling the matter.”

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Keraniganj Circle, Jahangir Alam, mentioned, “A probe committee has already been formed to investigate the allegation.”

Dhaka District Superintendent of Police, Md Anisuzzaman, told the media, “If the allegations against the accused are proven, proper legal action will be taken.”
