A female inmate who escaped from Kashimpur Central Women's Prison in Gazipur has been captured by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-2) from the Mohammadpur area of Dhaka, two days after her escape.

The arrest was confirmed on Sunday evening by Assistant Inspector General (Prisons) Md. Jannatul Farhad.

According to prison authorities, the inmate, Rimpa, 21, escaped from the correctional facility on Thursday evening. She is a resident of Raipur in Gangni upazila of Meherpur district and had been serving a three-month sentence in a criminal case filed with Dhanmondi Police Station in Dhaka. She was sent to Kashimpur Central Women's Prison by court order on July 9.

Following the escape, prison authorities formed a three-member investigation committee to determine how the incident occurred. They also temporarily suspended seven prison staff members, including three matrons—Laila Anjuman Sumi, Marina, and Rehena—and four female prison guards identified as Shayla, Sharmin, Jemi, and Asma, over alleged negligence.

Prison officials said an investigation into the escape remains underway. Following the completion of the necessary legal procedures, the arrested inmate will be returned to prison custody.
