Female student found dead in JU dorm
The hanging body of a female student of Jahangirnagar University has been found from a residential hall in the campus.
The deceased is Takia Tasnim Biva, 19, a first year student of 2023-2024 session from the university's Geography and Environment department and a residential student of Bir Pratik Taraman Bibi Hall.
According to general students, the body was found inside Room No-7005 on the seventh floor of the hall.
They claimed that Biva had talked to her boyfriend for 1 hour 54 minutes in a video call before her death.
They reportedly had an argument and Biva attempted suicide. Later, her boyfriend notified the matter to her classmates and asked them to save her. Finding the door of Biva's room locked, her classmates informed the hall provost about the matter, who then came and broke the door open.
Biva was found hanging upon entering the room. She was rushed to the university's Medical Centre where the doctors on-duty declared her dead.
Hall Provost Professor Abeda Sultana said some diaries and a mobile phone have been found inside the room and police are looking into them.
Sub Inspector of Ashulia police station Md Masud said, "We have collected primary information about the deceased. An autopsy will be conducted with permissions from the hall provost and her family. The body will be handed over to the family of the deceased if permission for an autopsy is not granted."
