Female trainee lawyer injured after judge throws paperweight in court
A female trainee lawyer was injured after being struck by a paperweight allegedly thrown by a judge during court proceedings in Gopalganj on Wednesday (July 22).
The incident took place at Judicial Magistrate Court-2, where trainee lawyer Sabiha Sultana sustained a head injury.
According to reports, during the hearing, Judge Md. Sujon Mia noticed several lawyers talking on the back bench of the courtroom. He allegedly threw a glass paperweight in their direction, which instead struck Sabiha Sultana on the head, causing a laceration. She was immediately taken to Gopalganj General Hospital for treatment.
Following the incident, Advocate Julkadar Rahman, former general secretary of the Gopalganj District Bar Association, strongly condemned the judge's conduct.
The association's current General Secretary and Government Pleader (GP), Advocate M.A. Alam Selim, also denounced the incident and called for a fair investigation and appropriate action against those responsible.
Repeated attempts to contact Judge Md. Sujon Mia by phone for his comments were unsuccessful, as he did not answer the calls.
