Ferry services on Daulatdia-Paturia route suspended due to bad weather
The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has announced the suspension of all ferry services on the Daulatdia-Paturia route due to adverse weather conditions.
BIWTA officials announced the decision around 3:30pm on Thursday (May 29). Earlier in the day, the authority had prohibited the operation of launches on this vital route.
Mohammad Salauddin, manager of the BIWTA Daulatdia office, said, “The Padma River became rough due to bad weather early Thursday morning. Although ferry services continued with extra caution initially, the weather gradually worsened. To prevent any accidents, higher authorities ordered us to halt ferry operations at 3:30pm. Services will resume once the weather improves.”
Md. Shimul Islam, supervisor of the Daulatdia ferry terminal, said, “Due to the bad weather, ferry, speedboat, and engine-powered trawler services were suspended starting from 9:15am on Thursday.”
