Ferry services resume after two-and-a-half-hour suspension
Ferry services on the Daulatdia-Paturia route resumed following a temporary suspension triggered by sudden dense fog in Rajbari and Manikganj districts.
The services resumed around 9:30am, approximately two and a half hours later, after visibility improved.
Earlier today at 7:30am, the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation suspended ferry services on this route.
During the disruption, two ferries were stranded mid-river.
Officials from the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Aricha office said the fog reduced visibility to near zero, making navigation along the river hazardous. The Ro-Ro ferry Khan Jahan Ali and K-type ferry Baigar, which had departed after 7:00am, lost their bearings mid-river, prompting authorities to halt all ferry operations at both terminals to prevent accidents.
Once conditions improved, the stranded ferries returned safely to the docks, and services resumed with vehicles and passengers.
Abdul Salam, assistant general manager at BIWTC Aricha, said the suspension was a precautionary measure to ensure safety.
