Fertiliser prices will not rise during my tenure: Agricultural Adviser
Retired Lieutenant General Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, adviser to the Ministry of Agriculture and Home Affairs, has assured that fertilizer prices will not increase as long as he remains in office.
Speaking at a press conference at the Secretariat on Thursday, Chowdhury highlighted the ministry’s achievements and overall progress over the past year.
He said a fertilizer policy has already been drafted and will be submitted to the National Committee for final approval. “The head of the National Committee, the Chief Industry Advisor, is currently abroad. Next week, we will hold a meeting to finalize the approval. The policy introduces significant changes concerning fertilizer dealers,” he added.
Chowdhury also noted that fertilizer smuggling remains an issue. Law enforcement agencies have been tasked with preventing such activities.
Addressing concerns over Petrobangla’s proposal to raise gas prices for fertilizer production, he said, “Even if Petrobangla increases the gas price, fertilizer prices will not rise. At least, during my tenure, fertilizer prices will remain unchanged.”
