Fiber@Home deploys country’s first L-band DWDM network with Nokia
Fiber@Home Ltd has deployed Bangladesh’s first L-band Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) optical transport network in partnership with Nokia, doubling the available optical spectrum capacity to support growing internet, 4G/5G and cloud traffic.
The deployment integrates L-band spectrum with Fiber@Home’s existing C-band infrastructure to create a C+L optical architecture, increasing transmission capacity over existing fibre networks without requiring additional civil trenching.
The initial rollout covers high-density routes connecting a major submarine cable landing station, data centres and key economic centres, with expansion planned across metropolitan and regional transmission rings.
Powered by Nokia’s coherent optical digital signal processing technology, the network supports per-channel speeds ranging from 800 Gbps to 1.2 Tbps. Fiber@Home said the upgrade will also reduce round-trip delay by 20 percent to 30 percent across southwestern Bangladesh through route optimisation and network upgrades.
The network uses Nokia optical transponders based on 5nm semiconductor technology, cutting per-bit power consumption by about 35 percent while reducing heat generation. The lower power and thermal requirements are expected to reduce cooling demand at data centres and central offices.
“This is a landmark technical achievement and a significant milestone in the evolution of the country’s digital transformation,” Fiber@Home Chairman Moynul Haque Siddiqui said, adding that the company aims to build a resilient, scalable and high-capacity backbone for Bangladesh’s growing digital economy.
Fiber@Home provides transmission connectivity to internet infrastructure providers, ISPs, telecom operators, data centres, government entities and other digital infrastructure operators across Bangladesh.
