Fiber@Home Ltd pioneers Bangladesh’s first L-Band DWDM network deployment with Nokia
Landmark optical network expansion doubles fiber spectrum, slashes Southwest latency by up to 30%, and cuts power consumption by 35% through cutting-edge 5nm chipset technology.
The announcement came from a programme held at a city hotel today
Fiber@Home Ltd, the leading telecommunication transmission service provider in Bangladesh, today announced the successful deployment of the nation’s first L-Band Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) optical transport network.
This milestone marks a transformative leap in Bangladesh’s digital infrastructure, effectively doubling optical spectrum capacity to support surging Internet traffic, 4G/5G traffic, hyper-scale cloud demands, and nationwide digital transformation.
As data traffic rapidly escalates across the country, traditional C-Band spectrum on key long-haul corridors has approached capacity limits. By integrating the L-Band optical spectrum alongside existing C-Band infrastructure, Fiber@Home creates a high-performance C+L architecture designed to meet the demands of Bangladesh's evolving digital economy.
The deployment initially strengthens high-density data routes linking the major submarine landing station, data centers, and key economic centers across the country, with ongoing expansion across metro and regional transmission rings.
Key Technical Highlights & Operational Benefits:
• Unprecedented Per-Channel Capacity (800G to 1.2 Terabits): Powered by modern coherent optical DSP technology developed by Nokia, the system supports single-channel speeds from 800 Gbps up to an incredible 1.2 Terabits per second (1.2T) per wavelength. This enables multi-terabit optical transport over existing fiber strands without requiring costly civil trenching.
• Significant Latency Reduction in the Southwest Region: Route optimizations and strategic architectural improvement lower Round Trip Delay (RTD) / latency by 20% to 30% across the Southwest region of Bangladesh, unlocking seamless real-time experiences for internet, enterprise cloud applications, financial trading, high-definition streaming, and 4G/5G backhaul.
• 35% Lower Power Consumption via 5nm Chipsets: Utilizing 5nm semiconductor technology in Nokia’s optical transponders, the network cuts per-bit power consumption by 35%, setting a new benchmark for energy efficiency in regional telecom transport.
• Lower Heat Dissipation & Green Operations: The ultra-dense, low power 5nm chipset design dramatically decreases heat output within data centers and central office locations. This lowers HVAC cooling requirements, improves equipment longevity, and directly contributes to a smaller carbon footprint.
