Fifth dengue death of June
Bangladesh recorded its fifth dengue-related fatality of June as a woman passed away at a hospital under the Dhaka North City Corporation area during the 24-hour period leading up to 8am on Monday. This follows the deaths of two other women reported in the previous 24 hours, bringing the country's total dengue death toll to 10 this year.
According to a regular press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 139 new dengue patients were hospitalized across the country during the last 24 hours, down from 220 cases recorded the previous day. With these new admissions, the total number of hospitalized dengue patients this year has reached 5,039, consisting of 56.8% male and 43.2% female patients. Meanwhile, 124 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 4,692 this year.
An analysis of the DGHS data indicates that out of the five individuals who died of dengue this month, four were women aged between 21 and 45. The remaining fatality was a male adolescent whose death was reported on June 1. Of the 10 total dengue casualties recorded this year, five were male and five were female.
A divisional breakdown of the latest 24-hour admissions reveals that Barishal recorded the highest number of new hospitalizations with 46 patients. This was followed by 21 cases in the Dhaka South City Corporation area, 16 each in the Dhaka North City Corporation area and Khulna, 14 in Chattogram, 12 in Dhaka division (excluding the capital), nine in Rajshahi, three in Sylhet, and one each in Mymensingh and Rangpur divisions.
